Famous for More than 5 Minutes

Year 2 children have enjoyed exploring their new topic, Famous for More than 5 Minutes. They learned about how Orville and Wilbur Wright, a team of inventors who were brothers and bicycles shop owners, helped us to make the leap from the previously unreliable gliders to achieve the dream of sustained powered flight. Through various interesting and engaging activities, the children learned how they studied birds in flight and based their important concept of “wing-warping” on how birds adjust the curve of their wings in order to maintain balance and control during flight.

The children sketched the glider and then tried to construct their own aeroplane using different materials.
