Safeguarding

At our school, safeguarding is not simply a priority—it is a fundamental responsibility that underpins every aspect of our work. We are uncompromising in our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare, wellbeing, and dignity of every child and adult within our community.

Safeguarding and child protection are embedded in our culture, our policies, and our daily practice. We foster a vigilant, proactive environment where concerns are identified early, acted upon swiftly, and managed with the utmost care and professionalism.

Our approach to safeguarding is underpinned by three core principles:

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
Every member of our community—staff, governors, and volunteers—has a duty to safeguard children. We maintain a strong culture of vigilance where no concern is too small to report, and all individuals are empowered and expected to act in the best interests of the child.

All adults are highly trained and confident in safeguarding practice.
All staff and volunteers receive rigorous and regular safeguarding training. They are fully equipped to recognise the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect in all forms and understand clearly the procedures for responding to and reporting concerns in line with statutory guidance.

The voice and safety of the child are central to everything we do.
Children are at the heart of our safeguarding practice. We ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and listened to. Pupils know who they can turn to for help, and we take all concerns seriously, always acting with sensitivity, respect, and a clear focus on the child’s best interests.

We are committed to working in partnership with families, external agencies, and the wider community to ensure that every child is protected, supported, and able to thrive.

Our school’s safeguarding leadership is robust, clearly defined, and meets the highest professional standards.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Ela Cable, has overall strategic and operational responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school. She leads with authority and accountability, ensuring that safeguarding is embedded in all aspects of school life. The DSL oversees all safeguarding concerns, makes timely and informed decisions, and ensures that appropriate referrals are made in line with statutory guidance. She is responsible for maintaining accurate, secure records, liaising effectively with external agencies, and ensuring that all staff receive high-quality, up-to-date safeguarding training. The DSL also ensures that safeguarding policies and procedures are rigorously implemented, regularly reviewed, and fully compliant with both UK expectations and local legal requirements.

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), Christian Cowdell, provides essential operational support and assumes full responsibility for safeguarding in the absence of the DSL. He works closely alongside the DSL to manage concerns, support staff, and ensure consistency in safeguarding practice across the school. The Deputy DSL plays a key role in promoting a strong safeguarding culture, ensuring that all concerns are acted upon promptly and appropriately, and that staff remain vigilant and confident in their responsibilities.

Our safeguarding team operates with a high level of expertise and professionalism. All members of the safeguarding team hold Level 3 Safeguarding Certification, ensuring they have advanced knowledge and the competence required to respond effectively to complex safeguarding issues, support staff, and engage with external safeguarding partners.

Together, the safeguarding team ensures that the welfare of every child remains paramount, that concerns are never overlooked, and that safeguarding practice across the school is rigorous, responsive, and uncompromising.
